Attachment Informed EMDR & Art Psychotherapist
Therapy with me
The roots of the therapy I offer have been with me since childhood. I hung out in dens, I loved drawing, and believed in fairies for far too long! I loved the magic of stories brought to life and my career, which has woven through art for theatre & film to art in psychotherapy, has kept alive my passion for the wisdom and power stories.
My base psychotherapy qualifications are in Art Psychotherapy, for which I achieved an advanced diploma in 2008, and Masters Practice, with distinction, in 2018. I studied IFS alongside art therapy and, as my practice has evolved, I have added DDP, Theraplay, and EMDR, to my therapy toolkit, as well as CPD’s in: Attachment Informed EMDR, Somatic IFS, Eco-Therapy, Sandtray, Clayfield, and Play Therapy, among others.
I understand that our nervous systems carry the story of relational experiences which, for most people, formed with our parent figures.
Our minds make sense of the system’s sensations with images in the imaginal realm, thoughts in the frontal cortex, feelings in the mindbody, and behaviours - which seek to sooth sensations.
I use this understanding in my therapy. The multi-directional flow of somatic experience, image, emotion, and self-belief, create resources that not only help in everyday life, but accompany the deep work of revealing, rewiring and repairing traumatic events in our nervous system. Therapy may include exercises that help strengthen mind and body in specific ways beneficial for specific mental and energetic functions.
We can upskill and sooth, educate and rewire. We cannot change what happened in the past, but we can change how we relate to the story we carry in our bodies, and how that influences our present.
My experience
I have worked as a therapeutic artist for around 20 years, with people of all ages and backgrounds and concerns.
Children, young people, and families, who had fallen ‘through the net’ in South London; Young women who had escaped sexual trafficking in Colombia; Women and children in shelters in Guatemala; Adults with severe and enduring eating disorders here for the NHS; Adults, children, and young people with complex physical and emotional challenges for Catharsis, and Share Psychotherapy; Children and families affected by cancer for Cavendish Cancer Care; and Care-experienced children and their families with Chrysalis Associates. I have worked with adults in Private Practice since 2018 with people of all ages, backgrounds, and needs. I’m always learning through CPD, trainings and books, so I can better help those who I support no matter who or what brings them to therapy.
My education
Levels 1, 2 and 3 EMDR Therapy with the EMDR Institute.
Masters - with distinction - Arts Psychotherapy Practice - Arts Therapy Northern Program, Sheffield
Advanced Diploma - Integrative Arts Psychotherapy - The Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education (IATE), London
Level 1 Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy
Level 1 Theraplay
Level 1 Dyadic Art Psychotherapy
Fundamentals in Psychosynthesis - The Institute of Psychosynthesis - London
Somatic ISF - Bristol
Ba (Hons) Technical Arts and Special Effects. University of the Arts, London.
My therapy is constantly growing as I learn more, and I am inspired by thinkers, and new discoveries in mental and physical well-being. Some reading I highly recommend is: Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall, for rediscovering how us humans can be good for our plant after all; Breathe by James Nestor, for essential understanding about the importance of breath; and Brain Energy by Christopher Palmer MD, for a revolutionary understanding of mental and physical well-being.
I love a Youtube video for short-cutting us to fantastic and effective content. Below are three links to some by the authors I’ve mentioned.

The first meeting is a free half hour. There’s no obligation to tell me everything. This is a chance for you to get a sense of me with no obligation. Ask questions about me and my practice, and think about therapy goals.
Sessions cost £65 per 60 minute hour
I have a limited number of discount spaces available for students and others, please ask.

It’s a good conversation to have at the beginning because therapy can be tailored to your individual needs. Money, personal aims, and how you feel about therapy, are all important considerations.
Short-term blocks of 12, 16, or 20 sessions are available at reduced rates. These are good value for money, encourage attendance, and can be target focussed.
Medium and long-term therapy are weekly or fortnightly sessions for 3, 6 months, or longer. Sometimes a therapeutic relationship can span years, with frequency reducing over time.

We will meet in person or online, as suits you. In person’s great because I can take care of you in The Brook, make you a cup of tea, you can use the art materials and I can tidy up after you! But online can be great too, and offers its own particular intimacy.
We will meet for a free half hour before you agree to therapy. Ask me questions, get a sense of me, and the space, talk about your therapy goals, and time frames.
Therapy is an investment of your time and money, and I want every person to get what they want and need. But, I am not perfect! I actively encourage honesty about how therapy is going for you because it is together that we will create a positive and productive working relationship in which I offer warmth, compassion and genuine acceptance (no matter what) alongside effective therapeutic modalities.
Early sessions give us a chance to understand what’s making life difficult. We are like detectives together, finding out how your nervous system got to be the way it is. We do this by talking, drawing, creating timelines, diagrams, and other artistic medium if you’re that way inclined (art’s great, though its certainly not essential).
Together, we establish and ‘tap-in’ imaginal, somatic, and physical resources so you feel safe and confident for us to begin to approach ‘processing’. Processing uses bi-lateral stimulation (BLS) - which can be following my hand movements with your eyes, me tapping on your knees, or electronic ‘tappers’, which buzz in your hands or next to your knees. EMDR is experienced by some as a bit like a ‘dreamlike’ state. As our nervous system sorts through the stories it carries, our minds creates new images and new meanings. We remember things which may or may not have happened, we naturally heal traumatised ‘parts’ that did not get what they needed, and I closely assist this process. Each session is complete in its own right, even if the work of therapy takes many months.
I consider therapy to be a co-creation. You are the expert - it is your body who knows your story, it is your feelings and your therapy. I am alongside with tools and expertise, empathy and compassion, and we pay close attention to how you feel as we go. We take things at the pace you need. There is no benefit to moving too fast or too slow… so we keep talking so we get it right for you.
I work in service of your well-being in your sessions, but cannot do that alone, and therapy outcomes are better if we can consider diet, exercise, life dreams & values, relationships, and work. These things alone are not the key to mental health, but they all play an important part. In fact, science shows that there is a bi-directional flow, both positively and negatively, with how we metabolise energy and emotions that is influenced by every aspect of how we live, which can be empowering when the virtuous circle beings to flow upwards!

To achieve accreditation through a practicum process with EMDR Europe, I need to submit recordings of my EMDR practice. This is done with video recordings of sessions.
If you are happy to be videoed in sessions, either online or in-person, I will offer 10 sessions at the reduced rate of £55 per hour.
Videos are watched ONLY by my clinical supervisor, and are strictly confidential.

There are new discoveries about the brain, body and wellbeing that are empowering and can be life changing. I will share some here for inspiration where its wanted.
Braiding Sweetgrass
Our well-being is intricately connected to that of the natural world, and our connection with our own wildness.
Clicking on the book will take you to a Youtube clip of Robin Wall Kimmerer talking about reciprocity, the bidirectional relationship we humans have with the natural world.
Breath
Breathing techniques can be a powerful practice to add to your personal first aid kit.
Clicking on the book will take you to a short Youtube clip in which James Nestor talks you through three breathing techniques. These are great start to the day, and help with anxiety too.
Brain Energy
His theory explains how the many things we do impact our mental and physical health.
Clicking on the book will take you to an interview with Cristopher Palmer in which he explains his theory. It’s easier and shorter than the book!
Founding The Brook Therapy Rooms
I created The Brook because I wanted somewhere lovely to offer therapy.
I felt restricted by rent-by-the-hour places where I couldn’t bring plants or candles. I found that when the space I worked in was more aligned with me as a person, my therapeutic offering grew too. I wanted to make this a permanent possibility for me and others.
I wanted somewhere close to green space, but close to Sheffield’s hustle and bustle - and with free parking! Somewhere me and other practitioners could express ourselves in the space we work. The Brook is all this, and I’ve even managed to bring nature inside with the indoor garden. I am super pleased - it really does feel lovely.
It has become a little community, and some of us are now exploring how we can collaborate to offer a truly bespoke and holistic service that shares knowledge of embodied, physical and psychological practices. Watch this space!
Growing Me CIC
I am co-director and consultant for Community Interest Company, Growing Me.
We make Therapeutic Life Story Work accessible to care-experienced children and those who care for them. Growing Me is a 10 step journey, guided by my voice, alongside brilliant animations, bright and colourful visuals, and a real-life toolkit containing creative and playful activities. We make evidence-based therapeutic modalities fun, accessible and non-stigmatising so grown-ups can feel empowered to help a child they care about.
Growing Me’s creator and other co-director is, Nicky. An adoptive mum to an incredible little human, Nicky is also a digital artist and designer. Her experience with her own child was the seed of inspiration for making Life Story Work better, safer, and more fun.
We share a passion, not only for helping care-experienced children and their families, but also for the natural world’s capacity to teach and to heal. Growing Me uses nature metaphors throughout to make things feels safer to talk about, and easy to understand. This means we get out in nature as much as we can - for meetings on the run, and sketches under trees, often with a mocha and a piece of cake!
